Since discovering that I had combination skin, I have scouring the interwebs and department stores for the perfect products to use in the evening to ensure my skin stays clean, matte and soft throughout the night. To be honest, I used to keep my night time skin regimen very basic as I hated the hassle of doing something extra when I was tired AF.
Now I’m getting older, and it’s finally starting to hit me that my girlish young skin (lol) won’t be with me forever. At the beginning of this year I decided to take my night time routine a lot more seriously and thought I’d share with you my favourite products that have been keeping my skin funky fresh!
First up is the Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask by Ole Henriksen. I’ve been using this mask for a while now and it’s just delicious! Although I predominantly use this at night, I’ve started using the scrub before applying makeup as it gives simply the most beautiful glow and completely mattifies the skin, leaving it soft and smooth.
The mask combines honey and sugar and is more of a scrub mask, than a mask of the cream or clay variety. The citrus works to brighten the skin and the raw sugar exfoliates and lifts dirt and excess oils. I normally apply this and leave it on for about 10 minutes, allowing the honey to sooth and nourish my skin, then I hop in the shower and scrub the mask off using circular motions with my fingers. Afterwards, my skin feels amazing. Yes, it is pricey, but to be honest, it’s well worth the price tag because since using it, my face just feels super healthy, refreshed and supple. I then move onto step 2, which is the…
The One Step Facial Cleanser is my first foray into Clarins skincare and I love it as it’s such a delicate, soothing formula. The cleanser includes ingredients such as orange extract which refreshes, tones and revitalizes the skin and Moringa Seed extract which is said to neutralize the effects of pollution on the face. The cleanser removes makeup and impurities while simultaneously detoxifying the skin without it feeling tight. The formula is gentle enough to be used twice a day, yet is effective enough to deeply cleanse any excess oils on my face. I find the cleanser perfect for prepping my skin for moisturiser and it has a lovely fruity scent that leaves my skin feeling fresh! After that, I apply the penultimate product which is…
I’ve reviewed this serum before (which you can read in greater detail here) and since that initial review, I have purchased three more bottles with this being my third one (a gal likes her serums!). I love this serum as it’s just so light and the formula seeps into the skin with ease. Hyaluronic acid (the main ingredient) is 1000% denser than water and helps to maintain the oil/water balance of our skin, while providing nourishment and hydration. I tend to use the serum generously on the areas of my face that aren’t oily, which for me are my cheeks and chin. My skin soaks it up and feels hydrated AF and normally I would be okay with using it on its’ own, however as we are approaching winter I’ve found that I need to add in the use of a night cream too…
Don’t let the price tag v content weight put you off this bad boy, it’s intensely rich texture means that you won’t be needing to use a lot of this cream at all! Neal’s Yard is an all round amazing skincare brand whose products have on more than one occasion (see here!), made me a believer. The Vitamin E & Avocado Night Cream is no different. As stated earlier, the cream is extremely rich and soaks into the skin like no one’s business. Vitamin E oil is SO good for combination skin as it’s light enough to not make your skin any oiler than it already is, but it’s rich enough to moisturize and hydrate the drier areas of skin.
I am an avocado freak and love using the oil on my face as it’s deeply nourishes and soothes the skin. The cream contains so sulfates, mineral oils or parabens so you know that you’re using a great quality, organic product that your skin will love!
And there we have it guys! That’s my set night list for combination skin. I find that these products really work well for me and all work with and compliment each other perfectly. Yes they are on the expensive side, but I honestly believe that where skincare is concerned, investment sometimes is needed. I tend to normally only use organic or near-natural products due to my slightly sensitive skin as well so that also factors into the price. As always, do what’s best for you and remember that there are always alternatives out there depending on your price range!
