By now I’m sure most of you will have heard of the new cosmetics brand, Makeup Revolution rapidly making their rounds on beauty blogs and magazines alike. The budget makeup brand has fast become known for their gorgeous dupes of the Urban Decay Naked palettes (which I will be showing in a separate post soon), however when I saw the diverse range of lipsticks that they had on offer (starting from a pound no less!) I knew I had to place in an order.
I ordered six lipsticks from the ‘Amazing’ collection which is made up of thirty different shades ranging from nudes to brights and comes in matte and creamy textures. The packaging is very simple; a black plastic casing with a little ‘window’ on the cap which shows a preview of the colour. The quality of the packaging is a bit loose, especially where the cap is concerned, but it’s definitely something that can be overlooked. What I really want to get into however, is the quality and colour of these shades.
From left to right:
- Rebel With Cause – A creamy deep blue-based cherry red, similar to Rebel by MAC.
- Depraved – A cream-based cool toned lilac. Part of the Scandalous L.E Collection.
- 100% Vamp – A creamy brown toned, eggplant purple. Part of the Vamp L.E Collection.
- Dare – A matte tomato red.
- Crime – A cream based, cool toned, blue based pink. Similar to Girl About Town by MAC.
- Vice – A cream based, sheer coral/orange.
First off, I think it’s important to note how gorgeous these shades are. It’s not often you come across high street brands with such an enormous range of shades; the texture and pigmentation of the lipstick more than makes up for the fact that I have to keep re-applying the shade every couple of hours or so. I usually find with affordable brands such as ELF and MUA that the lipstick is not of a great quality; it’s either chalky or extremely sheer or something, which I guess reflects the price, however with the Makeup Revolution shades, I don’t feel they reflect the price at all! The pigmentation is absolutely flawless, bold, and vibrant and the texture is very creamy and moisturising on the lips. I’d go as far to say that these are MAC standard in terms of quality.
My favourite shade of the bunch has to be Crime. Why? LOOK AT IT! You gotta love a good old fashioned Barbie pink. It’s exceptionally bright (almost neon) but I find that it flatters my skintone without looking tacky. I think most of the shades within the collection would look awesome on all skintones and I’ll definitely be adding more shades to my collection very soon.
What do you guys think of the shades?
You're the first person who has put the lipsticks on your lips in a blog! THANK YOU! I can now visualise the shades so much better! 🙂 I love the first shade – it's simply gorgeous!
Thank you so much love! I always try to demonstrate the product on my lips, I find it makes for better swatching and you can see a truer colour!
I'm gonna have to try some of these!!! Great post.
I have two of these Rebel With Cause & Depraved – still not used them yet but they do look pigmented and quite nice – guess I'll have to shave the tache and get to swatching!
I've yet to order something from Make Up Revolution – I've been trying to be good with my spending but I think I can order a few things from here because the prices are SO purse-friendly! These lippies look really lovely, bright, and pigmented. Rebel without a Cause is the one i've got my eye on, or Dare! Beeeaaautiful shades! xxx
