Facial scrubs are one of the key ingredients within my skincare regimen; instrumental in clearing my mug of excess oil, dead skin and makeup, I have in my arsenal at least 8 face scrubs that I use interchangeably depending on what my skin needs at a particular time. Click below to see what I use!

The Daily Ones
These are the scrubs that are gentle and sensitive enough for every day use. I’ve been using the Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Scrub (£4.95) for about three years on and off now and it hasn’t steered me wrong yet. It’s a fresh gel scrub with moderately small exfoliating beads that are demure enough to use every day. If you’re looking for an average thorough scrub that gets rid of dirt, this’ll be great for you.
On occasion, I also like to use the La Roche-Posay Physiological Ultra Fine Scrub (£8.00). Due to its tiny beads and creamy consistency, it’s perfect for those with sensitive skin as it contains no soap, no alcohol  and no parabens and is made with thermal spring water. I’m not totally sure what difference the latter makes, but it feels nice on the skin – a sorta cucumber-y coolness – and removes quite a lot of makeup with the quickness.

The Natural Ones
Sometimes you just want a bit of a natural kick – especially during breakouts or when your skin is just going through a rough patch. A couple of months ago I came across Sukin Revitalizing Facial Scrub (£8.12), an Australian owned natural facial scrub that contains bamboo, aloe vera, chamomile and natural walnut shells that are pretty effective when it comes to exfoliating the skin. The beads, or shells are a tad larger than normal micro beads so it gives your skin more of a work out, however the gentle, creamy treatment is non abrasive, with the added jojoba and rosehip oil helping to replenish and protect the skin’s natural barrier.
New on the block is the Good Things Manuka Honey Refining Scrub (£3.33) which is also gentle enough to use every day. Containing natural ingredients from the bee hive, the Good Things honey range has been specially designed to help keep skin clear and hydrated while tackling the problems that can lead to skin aging. The scrub is free from mineral oils, parabens, sodium laureth sulphane and is suitable for vegetarians. The scrub also contains oatmeal to thoroughly polish rough skin, while kaolin draws out excess oil for a clearer complexion. Last but not least, it uses the sweet almond oil which is naturally rich in fatty acids, to leave skin perfectly smooth and manuka honey to help balance moisture levels. Sounds yummy huh? Not bad for under a fiver!

The Specialised Ones
Sometimes there are certain situations which call for a more specialized treatment for skin (i.e. changing seasons, stress, illness etc). I have dry skin so in times of peril, my skin tends to wither up like a prune, leaving me looking ashy and slightly pale – sometimes even breaking out in spots – nasty. In dire times such as these, I look to my trusty L’Occitane Angelica Instant Hydration Mask (£24.00) to get the job done. It is indeed a mask, however for a more intensive treatment, I sometimes add some brown sugar to the gel and leave it on my face for 5 minutes, before exfoliating. Honestly, it’s an amazing treatment and I do feel that the hefty price tag reflects this. Hydration masks are amazing for those whose skin needs a quick burst of moisture and I can’t recommend this particular brand enough. My skin tends to clear up after 3 days every time I use this. It’s not that great for the removal of makeup, but if your main concern is hydration, this is the mask/scrub you’ll need.
It’s well known that oatmeal is an ideal ingredient to use for dry skin as it helps nourish and smooth dry distressed skin. I picked up the First Aid Beauty Instant Oatmeal Mask (£15.58) while in New York last year and it’s a great little mask for blemishes. I use this as a mask and as a scrub by mixing the mask with a bit of water or for something more intensive, olive oil. This mask promises to calm and smooth distressed skin without the harsh chemicals, parabens and a whole host of other nasties. The consistency is thick, as you would expect from a nourishing mask and contains large oatmeal pieces. It has a rich aroma of oatmeal (surprisingly..) and applies thickly on to the skin. It’s also exceptionally moisturising face mask that I can use on a daily basis without it overwhelming my skin. A great mask for a sudden breakout of blemishes or spots.
So there we have it; my current scrub staples! What scrubs do you guys use and do you normally use more than one scrub at a time like I do? Comment below!

My Facial Scrub Allstars

  1. Love the sound of the La Roche Posay one! Especially as you can use it daily. I currently only have one exfoliator in my life *sob* and it's terrible at that – Caudalie Deep Cleansing one, far too scratchy for my liking! So I'll have to check that out next time I'm in Boots 🙂
