No edges.
Two words that strike fear into the hearts of black women world wide. A barren wasteland of fail. Having no edges (or hairline) can arise by maintaining a bad hair care regimen; tight braids or weaves that pull on the delicate hair follicles, lack of moisture or Beyonce releasing a random album with no pre-warning (see: the Surprise Beyonce Album Edge Snatching Debacle of 2013).

I for one have always been on high alert when it comes to my hairline; I have more forehead than I already need so the prospect of my hairline thinning was not something I would ever leave to chance. Luckily for me, my edges have always been pretty full and glorious and while wearing braids for the better part of 3 years, I made sure to maintain and hydrate this area by using castor oil twice a week. However I noticed upon chemically relaxing my hair that my hairline towards the right side of my head was beginning to thin.
WE CAN’T BE HAVING THAT MATE.
Enter Shea Moisture’s Strengthen, Grow and Restore Edge Treatment. Containing hair growth-friendly Castor oil, as well as shea butter for moisture and peppermint for scalp stimulation (which also helps hair grow as it stimulates the blood vessels), the Thick, egg shell coloured product works as a styling gel that can be used every day to tame flyaway hairs, as well as helping to promote growth by strengthening and conditioning the hair.
The gel is suitable for those with chemically relaxed/processed hair, coloured hair and heat styled hair. All you need is a small dab along the hairline, along with the ends of the hair if needed, create your chosen hairstyle and you’re good to go. I’ve been using this for about two weeks now and I can honestly say that I’ve seen a slight difference where my edges are concerned. I’m gradually beginning to see the regrowth of sparse hairs which is amazing and my hairline in general looks a lot healthier and sleeker due to the gel. You can use the gel everyday, however I don’t as the consistency is a bit on the thick side and I don’t like the feeling of weighing my hair down, therefore I tend to only use it twice to three times a week.
I’ve always been a HUGE fan of the Shea Moisture products (see my past reviews here and here); the products overall have always agreed with my hair and I love the natural ingredients included into each product and if past reviews are anything to go by, I have my own lil Shea Moisture shop of products in no time!
