I’m back again with another tan review as part of the Tans for Women of Colour project.
This week sees me review a 30ml sample size of the Xen-Tan Dark Lotion.
” A favourite of A-List celebrities and beauty editors alike, the best selling Xen-Tan Dark Lotion gives you a rich, natural olive tan that looks great for up to 10 days. Easy to apply,
it goes on evenly, smells gorgeous and instantly creates a streak-free finish you’ll love.”
Xen-Tan is packed with oils and moisturisers such coconut and walnut oils, as well as Jojoba oil and it is recommended to apply two coats to skin to achieve an even, deep olive glow.
The one thing that stood out to me about the tan was the AMAZING Almond scent. Almonds and Marzipan are some of my favourite scents of all time so I was extremely impressed – I kept opening the tube to cop a small smell. 🙂
The lotion is also very moisturising without coming off as too oily; my only gripe with the lotion is that my skin didn’t really tan as well as I would have hoped it to. Because we were given samples, the lotion didn’t come with a tanning mitt so I used my hands to apply tan. After about 20 minutes, I noticed that nothing was really happening, so I applied a second layer. After another 20 minutes, I realised that my right leg was still the same colour!
I re-read the instructions just to double check that I wasn’t doing anything wrong and then re-applied the tan a third time and waited another 20 minutes. This time, I could see a slight colour change but nothing drastic. I decided to wait it out for the next 5 hours or so to see whether the tan would develop even more (while in my head, hoping that I wouldn’t turn out to look like Ross from THAT episode of Friends!).
After 5 hours or so, I saw no change or development in colour or my skin, which is a bit of a disappointment really as I’d heard really good things about this tan!
It is a shame because, coupled with the amazing smell and the moisturising properties, this could have been the favourite for me!

Hey Stephanie
Great post! I got a lovely colour from this, it was very natural looking, but the smell put me off, its your typical "biscuit" smell and I was not keen! also it was not long lasting on me, about 3-4 days and it faded alot, I thought it was meant to last a week?! My post will be on my blog tomorrow.
All the best
