It’s so weird. As a child/teenager, I absolutely hated the colour pink.

I grew up a bit of a tomboy you see, and have never really thought of myself as a ‘girly girl’ so to speak. While I had the dolls and the barbies and the Polly Pockets, I always made sure to surround myself with yoyos, Pokemon cards, Nintendo Gameboys and K’NEX. I felt that the colour pink and other things which society deems ‘feminine’ weren’t suitable for me at the time, because of how I looked.

On the rare occasion that I’d find someone on TV who looked like me in any way, shape or form, their bodies were always covered. They were either very masculine-presenting, or they were portrayed as insecure, self-hating characters who would cover up at every opportunity. It was annoying to see, tbh. However, it’s all the representation I had at the time, and would copy what I saw and cover myself up, sticking to masculine clothes and staying away from anything that could be associated with femininity.

Anyhoo, we’re in 2019 now and things have changed just a wee bit. Although still not my favourite colour, I’ve found myself over the years unknowingly dropping little pink accessories here and there into my wardrobe to the point where, I actually *don’t mind it anymore now. Out of all the pinks I prefer a nice blue toned fuchsia, so when I saw these neon pink heels from ASOS, I had to cop. I essentially designed the whole outfit around these shoes tbh and I feel like an older sister on a 90’s sitcom. Love to see it!
