I have exactly two sets of “fancy” underwear.
See, I’ve pretty much always been single and that, partnered with my immense insecurity of revealing myself to others has meant that I’ve never really seen the point of buying fancy underwear for myself. At the moment, I’m trying out the whole “loving yourself” thing, so I guess that includes buying things that make you feel pretty right?
Anyhoo, I spotted this bra and high waisted brief set on the Simply Be site, along with this gorgeous kimono and just had to purchase them! I’m really digging the 60’s ‘Mad Men’ underwear style at the moment and the bright green really caught my eye as its’ my favourite colour. Let’s talk about the kimono first though!
The Splendour Kimono Wrap Jacket £26.00 is a matt satin kimono with a vibrant oriental print. I can’t even begin to tell you how long I’ve wanted a satin kimono to just lounge around and walk about the house in! The range goes up to size 32 and although I bought the right size, it looks a bit shorter on me than on the model; I’m putting it down to the fact that I’m a bit more busty in that region.
The jacket fits true to size and just about ends at the tops of my thighs. I like how the garment just floats over my body – it doesn’t cling or tug and I reckon it could even be worn as a dressy jacket if going out say, for dinner, or you could choose to wear it if you’re having a romantic night in with the boyfriend ;). It has an inside tie and an outside tie belt and washes really well, providing you use a delicates’ washing powder.
All in all, I’ve really taken to this item, makes me feel like I should be poolside at the Chateau Marmont hanging out with Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland, yes darling.
Moving on to the underwear,we have the Lace Balcony Bra and the Lace High Waist Brief. There’s just something so sensual about a satin high waisted brief and the way it defines the waist/hip area; very 1940s pin-up. The high waisted shape provides a light support that smoothes the tummy and has sheer panels on the side that give a slimming effect. There’s a keyhole cut out at the back which adds a nice touch to the brief and it fits very well without digging into my sides. The briefs start at a size 12 and run up to a size 32.
I love the colour combination of the bra; I think the lime satin goes really well with the charcoal lace, creating a cute contrast. The lace straps are adjustable, albeit a tiny bit thin for my liking. I wear a 40DD and so when it comes to support, I do like a thicker strap to prevent ‘strap marks’.The banding is pretty secure, with three hooks and eyes which is what mama likes! The lightly padded cups give my bust a great rounded shape and the straps and are perfectly placed for my broad torso and wide bust.
The cup covers the whole of my bust as to prevent overspillage or the dreaded “4 boob effect”. I do wish that the sides were a tad thicker however, as I notice some side boob fat spillage (LOL) when moving about. On the whole, it’s a comfotable bra and paired with the briefs, it makes one feel very glamuorous. ^_^
