Every once in a while, perhaps every 4 months, a new product du jour enters the beauty blogesphere causing a mahoosive frenzy among us bloggers. A few months ago, Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir became just that. I refrained from buying it for the longest time as I didn’t really understand the concept of ‘beauty water’ – I mean, what’s wrong with regular water? Anyhoo, I relented and bought a 30ml bottle of the Elixir at Sephora and decided to test it for a couple of weeks.

The beauty elixir is said to smooth away fine lines, tighten pores and improve and brighten the complexion. Ingredients include grape, orange blossom, rose balm mint and rosemary – all components which promote radiant skin. I’m a huge fan of orange blossom and orange oil so I was excited to see that this was one of the prominent ingredients.
Known for its multi-purpose usage, I decided to use it a few different ways to see which one I preferred.
To set make up: I found no difference after using the spray to set my makeup. It started to fade as usual (without being touched up) after about 5 hours.
To be used underneath a moisturizer:  I think this is by far my favorite way of using the product. I used the spray on top of my primer and underneath my face cream, before applying my makeup. Seems like a lot of steps I know, but the payoff when applying makeup is great. My skin appears radiant and even a tad glow-y. It really makes applying concealer a lot easier too.
To be used as a touch up throughout the day: This method didn’t really do much for me apart from make my face damp while at work. =/.  Fail.

Despite the awesome ingredient list, the product fails to deliver in my opinion. I added coconut oil to some water and the results were much better for me personally than the Beauty Elixir. If anything, I would probably continue to apply this underneath my moisturiser for added hydration, but that’s about it. I haven’t seen any drastic change to my skintone, with the radiance being only temporary. A measly 4/10 for me!
Have you guys used the Caudalie Beauty Elixir?

Caudalie Beauty Elixir: Over or Under hyped?

  1. Megan Lillie says:

Aww so sad you didn't get on with it! I'm still debating on whether to splurge.

  2. I bought a Caudalie face wash when I was in Paris as they didn't have the Elixir in the small Pharmacy but I still bloody loved it. I imagined all of the Caudalie products to be pretty good but I guess its hit or miss for different people! xx

  3. So helpful to see the other side of it after all the rave reviews, it's good to remember that no product can work for everyone! Great review 🙂

  4. Love the honesty. I'm always scared of product hypes, yes scared lol. Cos the amount of money I've wasted due to a splurge. The fact you saw the same results with coconut oil and water, says to me you've found your beauty DIY for a fraction of the cost. I may try that 🙂 x
