Ok, so I’ve been meaning to write this post for a couple of days now, but I couldn’t find the time so it’s good that I can finally do it now. As a lot of people know, Fashion Week has recently passed and it is this event that has spurned me into writing this post.

Without launching into the full story, last week a popular beauty & fashion blogger/vlogger who I know (and will not name) asked for someone to accompany them to the MAC event during fashion week. I offered as I had never been to an ‘Industry event’ before and a couple of days later, I recieved a message from them telling me that they were seeking “prominant bloggers” and people who have over a certain amount of followers on their blog. Seeing as my follower count is “below” average,  I would not be invited to the event.

Really?

Up until this month I never realised that there was some sort of….undercover hiararchy within the beauty blogger circuit. I’m well aware of the different cliques within the group, as you kinda see the same groups of people in photographs, however, to alienate someone because they aren’t as popular is just plain snobby.

Blogging isn’t a competition.

The whole point of blogging is to share your interests and passions with others. People should blog because they love it, not because they want to recieve free products and be invited to industry events.

It isn’t about who can attain the most blog hits and followers; followers do not necessarily mean that your blog is any good. A lot of the time, I’ve found that people only follow blogs because the blogger is pretty- there’s nothing wrong in doing that, but it’s a shame to think that some people out there put themselves above lesser known bloggers because they get invited to events and are sent free things.

There’s space for everyone; It shouldn’t be some sort of ratrace as to who is the most popular! It’s starting to feel a bit “mean girl”ish and we don’t want that. Can we just share our beauty tips, tricks, hauls and tutorials in peace?

A Word on Beauty/Fashion Bloggery

Thank you so much for this! I've been wanting to beauty blog forever and I was a little bit put off after an abortive start. I recently decided to continue anyway because I want to share the things I like regardless of whether it's to 5 or 5,000 people. I also think of the number of blogs I read without ever commenting on and I know that somebody is always reading. Screw that person! I read what I like regardless of whether it's 'popular' or not. How very sad.
