The irony of this post is that as I’m typing this (Friday 22nd), it’s currently cloudy and raining up a storm. Nevertheless, it’s sunny somewhere in the world so whether you’re sunning it up on vacation somewhere or enjoying the lovely (albeit brief) Summer in the UK, I’ve got some tips to help you feel a tad cooler in these humid months!
Keeping a cooling spray handy when you’re on the go
To be honest, I’m a big fan of making my own cooling sprays (see below), however if you ain’t got time for that, you can always pick one up at your local store. I find them incredibly useful and the one I’m using at the moment is the Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water Spray which I purchased from Escentual. I know some of you are probably wondering ‘what’s the different between this and water?!’; well the difference is that this water spray contains 15 rare mineral salts that work to decongest skin, relive redness and soothe sensitive skin. ALSO, I’ve found that lately it works tremendously as a makeup setting spray; don’t ask me how, it just does!
I bloody love making my own skincare products so I’m excited to share with you guys a recipe that I use to make my own cooling sprays for when I’m on the go. Depending on the time of day, or what condition my skin is, I amend some of the ingredients. One thing you’ll definitely need is an empty spray bottle, which you can get at any high street shop.
It’s also important to note what ingredients benefit your skin and test out anything you’re not sure of, as you wouldn’t want to expose your skin to any harmful allergens. I use peppermint oil, and Lavender.
If it’s an exceptionally hot day, I will fill up my bottle with water and use two drops each of each oil (sometimes I’ll use three drops of peppermint) and give it a bit of a shake. The peppermint really comes through on this one; as it’s a very prominent oil it’s important not to use too much otherwise you’ll get that ‘freezing burn’ sensation which isn’t nice at all!
Yeah yeah, I know this is obvious AF but it’s the truth! I’m someone who takes about a week to finish a bottle of water and I hardly realise it until someone points it out to me! Water hydrates your body from the insides and regulates your bloodstream to keep you cool and refreshed so get to drinking!
Yep. These are becoming more and more obvious I know but stay with me here. I know so many people who use their fans at home WITH the window open; this is so counterproductive as you’re essentially just blowing all the cool air out the window. Close your windows with the fan on and bask in that #warmf. To be even cooler, put a bowl of ice infront of your fan.
White clothing absorbs light and heat, making you feel cooler, while darker/black clothing blocks it out, making the material (and thus, you) even hotter.
Seriously. Heat rises, so try and be as close to the ground as possible; when you’re on the bus stay on the lower deck, if you’re chilling at home or in your garden, chill out on the floor; you’ll be a lot cooler that way.
