Duuuuuuuuuuuudes. I feel like I haven’t done a natural/DIY post for the longest time! I think I’ve been spending so much time reviewing and trying branded items that i’ve completely abandoned one of my favourite hobbies which is making my own skincare products!
So last week I noticed a bit of a dry patch situation going on around my shin area. I’ve been wearing a lot of dresses lately and what with the random weather situation, it was bound to happen. One scrub that I swear by is this avocado and lemon scrub that my mum showed me how to make last year.
Looks-wise, I think we can all agree that it’s not the best, however the skincare benefits are AMAZING. Avocados are known to be one of the superfoods that provide us with so many nutrients and skin/haircare benefits such as healthy nails and cuticles as well as longer, stronger hair.
The oil is rich in vitamins A, E and D as well as potassium which is included within a lot of age reducing products. It’s amazing for those with dry, sensitive and sun damaged skin as it assists with the regeneration of skin.
Instead of caster sugar, I use demerara sugar, whose crystals are slightly larger for a more intensive scrub. To the sugar, I add some cinnamon oil, vanilla essence(for the scent) and a squirt of lemon which acts as a natural preservative and is also good for natural skin lightening.
I use the scrub about 3 times a week and I always see a significant difference with my skin – the sugar scrubs off the dead skin and impurities while the avocado oil moisturizes and softens. A great scrub to use pre-tan!
I get my avocado oil (among other oils) from here, however you can also pick up a bottle from Holland and Barratts or Amazon.com.
Do you guys like to make your own skincare products?
I love homemade scrubs. I must try this one, my legs are being covered up more due to all my bruises – booo!
