There are just some trends that never go out of fashion. Much like the beloved corduroy fabric or the smart oversized blazer, the Prep look always cycles back into the trend spotlight every couple of years, much to my delight.

The trend may seem plain at first, but the Prep aesthetic has always evolved to keep up with the times, with designers such as Versace, Dior and Dolce & Gabbana releasing a new season of pieces mostly featuring tailored shirts, ties, platform brogues and V-neck sweatshirts.

Now, after months of stark minimalism and comfy basics, the preppy style has returned. Lately I’ve been seeing the trend hit the streets, oversized collars. sweat vests. ARGYLE. Beige chinos and knotted sweatshirts. I’m here for it, and I’m loving it. As someone whose style tends to be more on the casual/comfortable side, this trend suits my aesthetic down to a tee.

In the look below, I’ve teamed this gorgeous Lorna Luxe x In the Style ‘Gigi’ Balloon Sleeve dress with some lace up wide fit shoes from ASOS. You can’t go wrong with a pair of crisp white socks to add a tinge more low-key drama to the look. It’s giving you ‘Cottagecore – but make it academic’.

If you’re thinking about how to nail the preppy look? Think white ankle socks, tennis skirts, crisp, tailored shirts. Balloon leg chinos. Brogues or chunky heeled flat shoes, and varsity jumpers.
