I noticed during the start of summer that drop waist dresses were slowly beginning to infiltrate their ways back into the ‘New In’ sections of a lot of plus-size collections. When this trend appeared on the scene in 2015, a lot of us were a bit dumbfounded; how were we supposed to wear this cut? Will the dropped waist style suit our body type? How can we rock a dress that flares out at an awkward angle?
Piggybacking off of the flapper dress cut, drop waist dresses offer a relaxed approach to formal wear. Delpozo and Victoria Beckham have shown exaggerated versions of the drop waist during the last few seasons, with brands such as ASOS Curve, Simply Be and Elvi releasing their stylish versions over the course of this summer. Drop waist dresses are the perfect transitional pieces to take you from the office to after-work drinks and suit ALL bodies.
Here I’m wearing the Elvi Cream Boucle Drop Hem dress and I’m absolutely in love with it. The fabric is rich and glides on with ease and the dress is incredibly true to size. When it comes to cuts, fabrics, and tailoring, you can always trust Elvi to knock it completely out of the park.
