Perfume is one of those default gifts we tend to get our parents (I know I do) and I know that in my case, I always tend to get my mum the same perfume each year as she has a specific signature fave, as do most people. This year though, why not switch it up a bit and go for a new signature scent?
Introducing the YSL Black Opium gift set. Created in 2014, the fragrance was introduced as a rock’n’roll interpretation of a classic that is supposed to highlight the dark, mysterious side of the YSL brand. The scent is strongly dominated by notes of coffee, pink pepper and pear. My mum is a massive coffee fan so I know that she’ll adore this!
Other notes in the fragrance consist of jasmine, vanilla, cedar and patchouli and overall, it’s a very strong, woody-yet-floral, dark fragrance that really appeals to the glam-rock aesthetic, noted by the dark, sequin decorated bottle design. In the gift set, you receive a 50ml bottle of the perfume, alongside a miniature 7.5ml replica – something that I think is absolutely ADORABLE and useful as hell because I don’t know about you guys but I really hate receiving the usual accompanying shower gel and/or lotion as I never use it, so to have two fragrances is a bit of a bonus.
If you’re a fan of earthy fragrances, I’d recommend this one; the longevity is about 4-6 hours and I’ve found that although the scent smells quite ‘heavy’ once first applied, it does become a lot lighter after about 10-20 minutes. It’s definitely a fragrance that packs a real punch!
