It is currently -1 degrees celsius as I write this post so I think we can officially declare that Winter Is Here *groan*. Lately it feels like every morning I have to choose between style and warmth/comfort which can be annoying at the best of times. But in all honesty, why do we need to choose? Enter: the knit dress.
Cosy, versatile and effortlessly stylish, the good old knit dress is ideal for getting dressed warmly on the go, whether you’re heading to the office or going on a date. At first glance, they may not seem like an obvious statement piece due to their traditionally shapeless frames and thicker material, but the silhouette over the years has evolved, morphing into evening wear, office wear and party-wear must-haves.
What I love about knit dresses is that they *always* look put-together, chic and polished even with minimal styling. My go to’s are knit dresses that have some kind of silhouette to give my square shape a bit more of a rounded aesthetic. The dress I’m wearing above is the Persephone dress by Hillhouse and it features bell blouson sleeves and a full, flared skirt that I love.
The best knit dresses have a drape to them, in my opinion. Clingy designs play into the bodycon silhouette whereas loose and structured dresses still shape the waist before flaring out, creating a cute hourglass or pear shaped silhouette (if you’re into that sort of thing, of course). You can also dress them up with thigh high boots or Doc Martens (see above) or dressed down with trainers.
