*Adjusts top hat.* Park Lane dontcha know?! She fancy huh?
I am indeed, not fancy my friends (although as a Taurus, we do have an ~appreciation~ for Nice Things so take from that what you will!) so when I was approached with the opportunity to stay a couple of nights at the Intercontinental Hotel in one of London’s most exclusive addresses, I absolutely jumped at the chance.
I’ve had my fair share of hotel stays over the years while travelling both domestically and internationally, and I can definitely say that the service at the Intercontinental is definitely in the top two. And that’s not me just saying it for sayings’ sake – I had no obligation to create any content for this stay but I’m doing so anyway because my experience was *that* good, so without further ado, let’s get into it!
The Intercontinental is a 5-star luxury hotel with chains and resorts all over the world. They refer to their brand as the ‘epitome of modern luxury’, with the Park Lane venue boasting over 447 rooms (including 71 suites).
The hotel sits on the PRIMEST of PRIME real estate: 1 Park Lane. Located directly between Knightsbridge and Mayfair, the hotel has incredible panoramic views of Green Park and Hyde Park. Your closest stations are Hyde Park Corner (a 5-minute walk) and Green Park station, with plenty of buses outside the hotel that’ll take you to Knightsbridge, Kensington, Victoria and other shopping hotspots and sightseeing places.
From the outside, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the building plays host to a barrage of offices inside, as its 1960’s Brutalist architecture screams ‘corporate’, but as soon as you step inside the building, you’re transported to another world filled with marble floors, freshly cut flowers, chandeliers and beautiful scents that fill the air courtesy of ITS OWN EXCLUSIVE CANDLE FRAGRANCE called ‘No 1 Park Lane’ which is available to buy at the hotel. Absolute goals.
The hotel boasts five restaurants and bars including Theo Randall, which is considered one of the best Italian restaurants in London. During the first night, I dined at Number 1 Park Lane: the hotel’s al-fresco restaurant overlooking parts of Hyde Park. Although outside, they were equipped with a great heating system, ensuring the patrons were warm and comfortable. The menu was warm and inviting, with a variety of continental and British dishes that were beautifully presented and tasted amazing. For those who drink, you’d be delighted to know that the drinks menu was incredibly expansive and varied.
For lunch/Afternoon Tea, I dined at the hotel’s ‘Club Intercontinental’ which is an exclusive lounge situated on the top floor with panoramic views of the city. Open from 1 pm, the lounge serves the most delicious Afternoon Tea, alongside a wide variety of fruits, snacks, and drinks that guests can pick at throughout the day. It’s also an awesome place to work – with many plug outlets conveniently located next to comfortable sofas and chairs.
I stayed on the third floor in one of the newly refurbished Mayfair rooms and baybee?? Whew! The comfort! The bed! I almost did not want to leave my room. The kingsize bed was incredibly comfortable and I experienced some of the best nights’ sleep I’ve had in a very long time. Inside the room also is a huge wardrobe and a desk for those who wish to work with an amazing view of the Royal parks. The widescreen TV has a variety of all the channels we know and love, and the Marble bathroom with walk-in rainfall shower just screams opulence. There is also climate controlled air conditioning unit, and a super-fast heating system.
You experience the service at the Intercontinental as soon as you step through the front doors after being kindly greeted by the doorman. I felt so taken care of, and was made to feel as if I was the most important person in the hotel. All the staff knew my name, and I don’t think it’s because it was a gifted stay as like I stated earlier, I haven’t been required to create ANY compulsory content for this stay. The staff were so forthcoming and polite, and went out of their way to make me feel welcome and refreshed at all times. Honestly it was amazing and I felt incredibly special.
Everything about the Intercontinental just screams luxury, and I would definitely stay again as a treat. Everything from the super friendly service, to the vast accessibility and the beautiful rooms were perfect, and if you’re looking for a super central, luxury hotel that is close to several transport and shopping areas, the Intercontinental should be your go-to!
*This was a gifted stay at the hotel with no requirement to review. As always, all reviews and opinions are my own!*
