Friends, we are almost at the end of the year and are steadily approaching the period where we chuck on our gladrags and celebrate the highlights of this year and the beginning of the next. I’m sure by now, most of us have already had our Xmas work do’s, however if you’re already planning your post-Christmas and New Years’ Eve outfits, then keep on reading because your girl’s got ya covered!

I’ve always been someone who has been quite basic when it comes to party wear, if I’m being honest with you. Give me a crop top and a midi skirt (preferably with a funky pattern) and I’m done. I prefer comfort over style during this time of year, especially when you want to get your boogie on and throw some shapes on the dancefloor; I can’t be bothering with too-tight woven fabrics and shoes! This year I am looking to tart it up a bit though as overall, It’s been a great year for me (professionally) and I want to celebrate that. 

I feel like prints are going to be the huge thing this season: it stands to reason that it will, seeing as animal print has had tremendous success this A/W. Personally, I’m all about the polka dot and when I saw this 70s inspired maxi dress, the Donna Summer in me JUMPED out and I knew I had to have it, seeing as I have nothing this grand in my wardrobe! There’s a lot going on with this dress: The high neck is very 70s and is perfect for keeping your neck snug in the bitter weather, with the tear-shaped keyhole cut allowing for maximum (or minimum) cleavage. I’m a huge fan of the front-split, but what really stands out for me about this piece are the sleeves, which are epic.

There are no rules when it’s NYE!

Accessories, accessories, accessories! It’s the last night of the year, so you’ll want to go mad with it, if that’s your thing. Terming a piece as ‘statement’ may imply that no other item you wear along with it should stand out, but I don’t believe that to be the case. If you want to give folks something to remember you by, you gotta give it to them. Why not try a pair of shoes with an interesting heel? Maybe pair your statement dress/jumpsuit with trainers for a change? How about teaming it with an oversized plastic motto necklace? Or a perspex bag? Honestly there are so many opportunities to dress up a statement fit. The dress, jumpsuit or skirt/top etc need not be the only standout piece of your outfit.

Embracing outfits with movement

One of my favourite things to incorporate during the party season is an item of clothing with some kind of movement. Whether it’s tassels, silks, fringes or feathers, they’ll look absolutely amazing on the dancefloor. 

Sporty-yet-cool separates 

Ok so you’ve decided that you don’t want to go ‘all out’ for NYE, or you’ve randomly been invited to a party last minute but have absolutely nothing to wear. What about a bit of Athleisure? Teaming a pair of slim-fit tonal tracksuit bottoms with a sequined crop top for instance could look amazing. Anything shiny works as party attire tbh. You could even team a cropped hoodie with faux leather trousers and a cropped puffa jacket, complete with hi-hop trainers. Anything goes!
